/` 100% Ubuntu 8.10 /` : A long story of what I've done in the past week with my machine.

Here is a list of things that happened in the past week to my production machine: 1. Got a half terrabyte drive. 2. Was going to install drive when I thought given the time I had to work on the computer, I would add replacing the power supply to the list. 3. Ripped my dell power supply out, but removing it involved un-pasting the heatsink from the cpu, then ripping of some stencil used to guide the umbilical to the SATA drives. 4. put in new 500 watt power supply with 6 pin power cables for the forthcoming 9800GT. 5. Made the wise idea to instal Ubuntu 8.10 on the new drive. 6. Corrupted the GRUB boot loader that allowed me to run 7.10 and Windows XP previous to this expedition. *SIGH* 7. Installed Wine, wine-doors, steam, downloaded all my steam games: Orange Box, day of defeat, prey, etc. Played TF2 all day last Sunday... Fun game once you know what is going on (play "cp_orange_x3" it's a good capture the flag map.. 8. Bit the bullet and formatted the drive with XP on it and the old grub bootloader. 9. Bought the NVidia 9800GT from Tiger Direct with "Call of Duty 4" on it, for 109 dollars, since I got the 500 watt power supply installed.. 10. Tried to install XP, but found I needed the SATA drivers in the install disk. I learned of a new bit of jargon "slipstreaming".. Pressed to get XP installed, I bypassed the Linux way of making a slipstreamed XP disk and downloaded "nlite" and used it to make an XP disk with SATA drivers on it.. 11. Installed XP, mother boaubuntu 8.10 intrepid ibex windows wine cod4 guild wars steam valve orange box team fortress tf2 bf2 bf2142 power supply dell 500 400 watt ALSA blenrd drivers, BF2, BF2142, Steam and all the steam games, Guild Wars.. 12. By this time I had the graphics card.. I installed it, tried out Guild Wars on it.. It was sooooo smooth. Played BF2 and BF2142 on XP friday night and kicked a lot of ass!! 13. Decided I needed to make a video to let people know what I did.. Found out that blender wasn't playing audio, so I found some information on the net that said I needed to change all my sound sources to ALSA.. And blender's sound was working.. 14. Then I made this video.. Caveat- I am still noticing a weird repeating noise in some of my wine games, I have not tried guild wars in wine, now have I installed cod4 and played that, have not tested kino.. Still more to test and report on..
